Jose Mourinho reminded Paul Pogba of defensive free-kick duties during Manchester United’s draw with Sevilla

Jose Mourinho reminded Paul Pogba of defensive free-kick duties during Manchester United’s draw with Sevilla
Jose Mourinho was keen to remind Paul Pogba of his defensive responsibilities before bringing him on in Manchester United’s goalless draw with Sevilla on Wednesday evening. The France international was surprisingly named as a substitute for the first leg of United’s Champions League last-16 tie in Spain. Before the match, Mourinho claimed Pogba had created ‘doubt’ by making himself unavailable due to illness for United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Saturday. But the 24-year-old’s exile lasted just 17 minutes as Ander Herrera was forced off with a hamstring injury. And shortly before Pogba replaced the Spaniard, Mourinho took the opportunity to remind the midfielder of what is required from him during defensive free-kick situations.

Mourinho did not directly blame Pogba but was keen to stress that Newcastle’s goal was the result of the midfielder’s failure to jump for the ball. ‘I remember clearly without television but just with my memory from the touchline a Newcastle player jumping and two of my players [Pogba and Nemanja Matic] looking at him and staying on the floor,’ said the United manager.
Mourinho’s assistant Rui Faria was also giving Pogba advice.
